Place the crate in the family room in the beginning. That is where a lot of people will be and will help your poodle feel comfortable. At night, you can put the crate in your bedroom to give them a safe presence nearby. After a month or so of crate training you should be able to leave them in one place. Starting out close by helps to get them initiated into using the crate as a ‘safe house’ but close to keep them calm and safe. Be sure that the crate is always clean and your poodle has a warm place to lie inside. Putting a blanket with your ‘smells’ on it helps a lot to make them comfortable and feel you’re close by.
